Introducing Neuroqueer: ShoutOut’s New Resource

We just launched NeuroQueer, a new resource exploring what it means to be both neurodivergent and LGBTQI+.

This resource responds to an often overlooked reality: many neurodivergent people also identify as LGBTQI+, yet these identities are rarely explored together in education, policy, or public conversation in Ireland.

NeuroQueer centres the voices of queer neurodivergent people in Ireland, offering personal stories, practical guidance, myth-busting, and signposting to supports. It challenges the long-standing tendency to speak about these communities, rather than with them.

Despite progress in both LGBTQI+ equality and neurodiversity awareness in Ireland, individuals at this intersection can face distinct challenges, including exclusion, misunderstanding, and a lack of tailored supports in schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings.

NeuroQueer aims to address this gap by providing an accessible, community-led resource that affirms and celebrates neurodivergent and LGBTQI+ identity. We encourage educators, youth workers, parents, and organisations across Ireland to engage with the resource, share it widely, and use it as a starting point for more informed and inclusive conversations.

NeuroQueer is available now at: https://www.shoutout.ie/neuroqueer/

The resource was developed with the support of the Department of Children, Disability and Equality's LGBTI+ Community Services Fund 2025.
